Grass Valley Intros New Software for Kayenne Switcher

At IBC2010, Grass Valle will introduce new software (v.2.0) for its highly successful Kayenne Video Production Center switcher that increases the on-board video clip storage capacity and adds the ability to create sophisticated, multi-layered, on-screen effects, which up until now has only been found in top-of-the-line, standalone DVEs.

The new Kayenne version 2.0 software introduces a ClipStore option based on the proven Grass Valley K2 Summit™ and K2 Solo™ server technology.  The ClipStore is easy to load with a USB thumb drive, with touchscreen control directly from the Kayenne’s GUI menu for clip editing and record control. The K2 Summit provides four channels of video and key with more than 10 hours of storage in HD, while the K2 Solo provides two channels of video and key with five hours of storage. Clip selection is made easy by use of thumbnails. The ClipStore is completely integrated with the effects memory (E-MEM) and cue memory (Q-MEM) systems.

New Features of Version 2.0 Software

  • A new extension of the Kayenne’s popular Bus Linking feature, so that multiple buses can be linked together.  This can be used, for example, so that aux buses can feed multiple monitors on a set with different rules to enhance the audience experience. Configuration is made easy by providing source substitution tables, which can be applied to each bus.
  • The new Kayenne software version introduces Key Chaining, so that the state of keyers in the same or different M/Es can be tied together for transitions. Both Bus Linking and Key Chaining make 3D productions easier than ever.
  • The Kayenne’s iDPM and eDPM subsystems have been enhanced with the addition of corner pinning which, when tied together with cropping, provides the ability to transform a key to match background shapes or perspective, or to “pin crop” corners, allowing easy adjustment of the image inside the cropped area. The Kayenne’s E-MEM has been enhanced to allow the transfer of timeline effects not only between registers but between M/E channels as well.
  • The Kayenne’s eDPM system has been enhanced to provide true independence for the running of effects, either from the eDPM itself, or from the Master Timeline. The eDPM has four channels of DPM with two combiner outputs.
  • Kayenne Version 2.0 is fully compatible with Ignite Konnect.

“With each event that the Kayenne has produced, we are learning more and more about what operators need in terms of features to make their jobs easier and more efficient,” said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Grass Valley. “The new version 2.0 software delivers on what our customers are asking for and illustrates that the Kayenne platform will continue to expand and add new functionality as time goes on.”

Following Grass Valley’s unparalleled success with video production switchers in the global professional marketplace, the Kayenne has been used at many of the world’s most high profile live sporting events in 2D and 3D HD around the world, including the Soccer Championship tournaments in South Africa, the Indy 500 and NASCAR car races in the US, and individual telecasts of games for all of the numerous professional sports leagues globally in the past year. It has also been implemented into numerous production studios looking for the highest quality production techniques for established and new HD news and 3D entertainment programming.

On-Stand Demos

At IBC, the Kayenne as part of Grass Valley’s Fusion initiative to deliver more value through improved levels of product line integration will be shown integrated with other Grass Valley products. Version 2.0 software provides image thumbnails for all K2 Summit and K2 Solo servers on the network, not just the integrated ClipStore.  The company will also demonstrate real integration with its LDK camera control system (LDK Connect Gateway) to provide switcher tally via Ethernet (rather than GPIs) and the ability of the technical director/vision mixer to recall scene files from the switcher and toggle camera color bars.

From its inception, Kayenne has been able to control router destinations using Grass Valley’s Encore™ or Jupiter™ control systems from the panel or E-MEM. At IBC Grass Valley will spotlight the ability to control switcher aux buses directly from router control panels as well as dedicated remote aux panels.
